Makeup Tips & Tricks For Ageing Skin
Fact: your skin changes with age. Why? Because your skin barrier is also changing.
So, if your makeup has started sitting differently, you’re not imagining it. These shifts can make your complexion feel drier, more reactive and less forgiving of products that once worked perfectly.
No need to spiral though - a few small changes can help your skin feel comfortable and look its best again.
What Should You Change?
1. Prep Properly
Hydration is essential for long-lasting, smooth makeup. We love prepping our skin with a soothing oil, nourishing moisturiser and SPF before we even pick up a makeup brush.

This will help prevent separation, or makeup clinging to pesky dry spots.
2. Build Your Base In Thin Layers
Mineral Foundation Powder is a great option for reactive skin, but application makes all the difference. Instead of building coverage in one go, apply in light, thin layers and build gradually.
This helps prevent product settling into fine lines or clinging to dry patches, and gives a smoother, more natural-looking finish.
3. Adjust Your Technique
As skin changes, it can become more reactive, which means technique matters. Aggressive buffing can trigger redness and exaggerate texture.
Try using a lighter hand, gently pressing and sweeping product over the skin rather than fast, firm circular motions.
If you tend to be heavy handed, switching to a softer brush can make a noticeable difference.
4. Be Precise With Your Placement
Cheek products like Blush, Bronzer and Highlighter play a massive role in giving the illusion of a youthful complexion. But, if placed in the wrong spots they can do the opposite and drag your face down.

Instead of placing your bronzer in the hollow of your cheeks, place it just below your cheek bone. Then when blending it out, blend upwards in circular motions to lift your face.
For blush, apply the pigment on the apples of your cheeks, then slightly above your cheekbone out toward your ears. Again, use that same technique of blending upwards for a lifted look.
We understand sometimes written instructions can be a bit difficult to follow (we're visual learners ourselves). If you are too, head here to watch us breakdown placements and how they effect your overall look by clicking here.
5. Use Hydrating Lip Products
With age, you tend to lose volume in your face thanks to collagen production slowing down. One of the areas you might notice this the most is your lips.
This means it's time to forget drying, matte lipsticks and opt for hydrating, nourishing formulas instead. Look for products with a more satin finish, like our Longwear Lipsticks. Or, for instantly plumper looking lips use a high shine, glossy formula like our Liquid Lip Cremes or Sun Glaze Lip Oils.
And finally, integrating shades that are similar to your natural lip colour will also give them an overall fuller appearance (we're not saying throw out the bold red for good, just save her for special occasions).
