Why Loose Mineral Foundation Powder is perfect for Mature Skin
"Do you recommend Loose Mineral Foundation Powder for mature skin?"
This is one of the most common questions we get asked. The short answer is YES!
The main concern is whether it is causes creases and we're here to let you know that it doesn't. Mineral makeup provides lightweight, buildable coverage that doesn't settle into lines or exaggerate wrinkles.
It's formulated to sit on top of your skin, instead of sinking into pores and accentuating pesky lines, which helps avoid that heavy, cakey-looking finish you experience with traditional makeup bases.
But that's not the only reason we recommend it...
Why mineral makeup is perfect for mature skin:
Non-Irritating
Skin can get more sensitive with age. That's why each of our formulas is made with gentle, non-irritating ingredients that can be used on any skin type.
Smooths & Blurs
A key ingredient used is ethically sourced Micas. This mineral pigment reflects light for a naturally luminous finish that also gives the illusion of smoother skin to soften fine lines.
Soothing
Tocopherol, more commonly known as natural Vitamin E, is an ingredient you'll find listed in the majority of our clean beauty range. It calms inflammation and helps strengthen your skin barrier, making it the perfect addition to any mature skin makeup routine.
Let's talk prepping for perfection
Beautiful, easy makeup application always starts with the right skin preparation prior. No matter how expensive the makeup you use is, or what formula it is, if you don't give your skin some TLC beforehand, it's not going to look great.
Skin that's starting to mature tends to be on the drier side (thanks hormones), which can lead to weird flaky patches and increased sensitivity due to a weakened skin barrier. So, before you even think about picking up your Loose Mineral Foundation Powder, here's what we recommend doing.
1. Thin skincare products (like Toners or Serums)
These products tend to absorb quite quickly making them the perfect first step.
2. Hydrating Moisturiser
Now grab your favourite moisturiser for an instant hit of hydration. While this is an essential step for any skin type and greatly helps dry skin, this shouldn't be the last step in your skin prep.
Just because your moisturiser works great for your skin, doesn't automatically make it compatible with your makeup. Lots of moisturisers include heavy occlusive agents and silicones quickly make applying Loose Mineral Foundation Powder way more complicated. Here's why:
Occlusive agents like mineral oil, petrolatum and heavy plant butters (like high-concentration shea butter) form a slippery surface on your skin, never fully soaking in. The oily film on your skin prevents Loose Mineral Foundation Powder from sticking, resulting in it clumpy together and looking patchy.
Heavy silicones such as dimethicone or cyclopentasiloxane, especially when listed near the top of an ingredient list, are great at creating that silky feel, but once again create a slippery surface. Dry mineral particles cannot melt or bond properly your skin and will instead roll around on top of the silicone layer.
So to prevent this, we recommend never skipping the next step.
3. Nourishing Face Oil
Not only is a nourishing face oil something mature skin will love soaking up, it provides the best base for Loose Mineral Foundation Powder. It hydrates every centimetre of your face and takes extra care of those flaky patches.
This light layer of face oil allows your Loose Mineral Foundation Powder to grip to your complexion, and melt into your skin for a seamless blend. The finish then looks more hydrated and glowy, acting more like a liquid formula instead of sitting on top looking dry and crusty.
4. Sunscreen
Of course we can forget SPF! Yes, our Loose Mineral Foundation Powder does have a rating of SPF 20 protection. However, living in Australia we always recommend applying additional higher sun protection prior to your makeup (it's the easiest way to prevent fine lines and wrinkles!).
Applying Loose Mineral Foundation Powder
Once your face is looking plump and dewy, it's time for some coverage. Use a Kabuki Brush to dip into the Loose Mineral Foundation Powder, then begin buffing it into your complexion using light circular motions. Stop at just one layer for a sheer finish, just enough coverage to even everything out.
To build up to a medium coverage, and help hide things like redness and pigmentation, repeat the process 2-3 times until you're happy.
But with this much product, what about creasing? Well, areas prone to creasing are typically areas you shouldn't need too much product (smile lines, beside your eyes, on your forehead). Typically where you'll want to build up coverage is your cheeks and along your jawline.
By avoiding layering too much of any product in areas your prone to creasing from movement, you'll be able to minimise creasing all together!
Don't just take our word for it!
