BB Cream vs Foundation: Which Base is Best?
There are so many makeup base options on the market (BB-cream, foundation, skin tint, tinted moisturiser, CC-cream to name a few) and it quickly becomes overwhelming knowing what to choose. Although they may look similar, they each have unique benefits, and it's about finding the perfect match for your skin.
If you're wondering where to start, you've come to the right place. We're about to get into the nitty girtty details of where to get started on the journey to finding your best base yet.
What's the difference between a Foundation and Tinted Moisturiser?
As a general rule, foundations offer more coverage than tinted moisturisers. Their formulas are much more opaque, aiming to remove imperfections completely and make clear base to layer other products on top of. We recommend using a foundation on the days where you might have a little bit more to cover (like when annoying hormonal breakouts pop up), or you're going for a heavier, glam makeup look when you want to dress up.
Tinted moisturisers have a much sheerer as their focus is evening out your skin tone and
blurring imperfections. Because their job isn't providing heavy-duty coverage like foundation, the formulas feel much lighter sitting on your skin which a lot of people prefer.
This is something you'll probably find yourself reaching for on the daily, when you want to look a bit more refreshed without have to spend the time creating a full makeup look or use a bunch of products.
Here at Burleigh Minerals we offer both - Earth Cream Tinted Moisturiser and Loose Mineral Foundation Powder. A lot of questions come through asking about which foundation to choose, and even though they're both non pore clogging, lightweight bases, our Earth Cream is not a foundation and we would never recommend it as one because of it's sheer coverage. To help break down the differences between the two, we've created a table comparing them both.

So, what about the other base options?
Our Earth Cream Tinted Moisturiser is what we like to describe as a hybrid, that acts like an all-rounder. It provides the more coverage than a skin tint and the same coverage BB-cream (lightweight to smooth out your complexion). We just decided to use the term tinted moisturiser because unlike a lot of other formulas on the market, ours is super hydrating. Upon application it adds a subtle, dewy glow to your skin and uses power ingredients like Niacinamide, Glycerin & Vitamin E so it doesn't just improve your skin on the surface, it goes below as well.
Essentially, we've created a blend of all three so you never have to try figure out when to wear what - you can keep it simple with choosing between foundation or tinted moisturiser.
Can you use Tinted Moisturiser and Foundation together?
We always reiterate that makeup has no rules, it's all about self expression and doing what makes you feel good. But yes, our Earth Cream Tinted Moisturiser and Loose Foundation Powder can definitely be used together!
The first step would be to apply your Earth Cream. This creates a nice, even base for you to then dust your Loose Mineral Foundation Powder over the top of. You can just add a light layer to set your Loose Mineral Foundation Powder in place, or a heavier one to build up coverage, whatever works for you.
We know a lot of our Glow Gang love to use both, whether it's on alternate days or together, which led us to create our All Bases Covered Bundle. It includes our Earth Cream Tinted Moisturiser and Loose Mineral Foundation Powder to keep your skin looking dreamy all the time and helps you save money in the process. Click here to get the details.
